Domotics/ Home Automation

Domotics is the use of technology in private houses. Domotics is becoming very popular because is offers comfort and safety to the residents of automated homes. Automated homes can have climate and light control, control of doors and window shutters, security and survellance or just very good multi-media entertainment systems. Domotics could also be used in business. This would make the business appliances smarter, this way time will be saved and much more possibilities for technology innovation will be available.
In his article V. Bush mentions that science is dedicated to make easier our lives. He mentions that science will make easier the access to information, knowledge and communication. In a way domotics represents all this, because through domotics people have a easier access to information (through walls, TV's, and different small appliances), Domotics also facilitates knowledge and communication because through inter-connected technology the information is easier to understand and to spread.

Vannevar Bush

Look guys,

This is not possible. This guy must have received the info from aliens...That is not possible!!!

I believe he had a dream with all the technology illustrated in images and then he tries to explain it in some way...
Just when you read his essay look how he explains it. Look at the vocabulary he uses...
He must have received some enlightment from outer space...or dreams I do not know....Even Einstein was not that genious...Come on...

What do you think guys?
Are such predictions possible...How he came up with all these insights...computers were not even available at that time...

As we may think

Technology is more and more embedded in everyday life, but it hasn't always been this way. Only 50 years ago people regarded technology as something only scientists and technicians dealt with. 40 years ago reaching the Moon was just becoming a reality. 30 years ago just a few people had access to a computer. 20 years ago programming was something just a few could understand. 10 years ago we were just learning how to use the Internet. 5 years ago no one knew what wikis and blogs were, nor how to use them. And so it goes. We can choose to ignore it, we can try and keep up-to-date, but there is no escaping it.

The fact that Vannevar Bush could foresee many of the major developments in technology and the way we would use them is still a huge achievement. Many of the actual developments can be tracked to this article, "As we may think", and its place in technology and history is remarkable. We can't undrstand the future if we don't look back and try and understand the past.

What are some of the technologies envisioned in this article, and how is that vision different to today's version of it? Why? What do you think, or expect, the future will bring?
